Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
QuickDef (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the QuickDef Chrome extension (“the Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed, how it is used, and your rights.
QuickDef is designed to minimize data collection and operate with limited, user-initiated processing only.
1. Overview
QuickDef provides instant, learner-friendly English word definitions when users double-click words on web pages or PDF documents.
The extension only processes information necessary to deliver dictionary functionality.
2. Information We Process
A. User-Selected Text (Dictionary Requests)
When you request a definition:
- The selected word
- A short surrounding sentence (for context)
may be securely transmitted to our backend and AI provider to generate a learner-friendly definition.
We do not:
- Transmit full web pages
- Transmit full PDF documents
- Monitor browsing activity
- Automatically collect page content
Processing occurs only when you explicitly request a definition.
B. Saved Words (Optional Feature)
If you use the “Save Word” or flashcard features:
- Saved words
- Generated definitions
are stored locally in your browser. These remain stored until you delete them.
C. Contact or Waitlist Information
If you voluntarily provide your email address (for example, through a waitlist or by contacting us), it is used only for communication related to QuickDef.
The extension itself does not require an account.
D. Technical Error Logs
We may collect limited, anonymous technical error logs strictly related to service reliability (such as failed definition requests).
These logs do not include:
- Browsing history
- Full page content
- PDF documents
3. AI Processing
QuickDef uses AI services to generate simplified, learner-friendly definitions.
When AI processing occurs:
- Only the selected word and short context are transmitted
- The data is used solely to generate the requested definition
- No full documents are transmitted
- The data is not used for advertising
AI processing is strictly limited to dictionary functionality.
4. How Information Is Used
We use information to:
- Provide instant word definitions
- Enable saved words and flashcard features
- Improve definition quality and service reliability
- Communicate updates (only if you opted in)
5. Data Storage
- Saved words and definitions are stored locally in your browser
- If you enable account-based features in the future, saved data may be stored securely in our database
- Cached definitions may be stored temporarily to reduce repeated AI requests
6. Third-Party Services
QuickDef may use third-party services for:
- AI-powered definition generation
- Error monitoring
- Hosting and infrastructure
These services are used only to operate the Service and are required to follow applicable data protection rules.
7. Data Retention
- Locally saved words remain until you delete them
- Account data (if applicable) can be deleted upon request
- Waitlist or communication emails can be unsubscribed at any time
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your stored data
- Delete your saved words at any time
- Request deletion of any account data
- Opt out of communications
